Join us for bird walks in spring 2026.
Spring is a great time for birders of all skill levels. If you start early, you can see the overwintering species before they leave. Birding in early spring is a great way to start learning because there aren't so many different species. As we get into late April and early May, it gets very exciting for more experienced birders because many migratory species are only around for a short time. It's also fun to welcome our summer nesting birds back for the season.
We will walk every Saturday morning from March 28-May 2. The walk starts at 8am at the Bala Cynwyd Playground where we sometimes see nice wetland species. Then we'll head down the trail past the Barmouth trailhead and along the creek, counting the many sparrows, cardinals and robins and hoping for interesting warblers, herons, ducks, woodpeckers, etc. We'll finish down toward the river where we sometimes see eagles, falcons, and gulls. Grab your binoculars and join us! For information about the walks contact Karen Snetselaar at fochtsteward@gmail.com. For information about which birds people see along the trail, check out our hotspot on ebird.
This walk is suitable for all ages, including children with an adult. Please don't bring your dog for these walks.
We have archived images and other information from some previous walks. There are also a couple videos that allow you to travel along the trail without leaving the couch!
