Kick off Earth Month and bring your loppers, pruners, and hedge trimmers to the Trail for a mobile sharpening event with Seven Stars Mobile Sharpening on March 25 from 10am-2pm! Kitchen knives are welcome too. Learn more about the services, pricing, or reach out to Luke at Seven Stars Sharpening with any questions here.
Each Sunday in April, join the Friends' stewards on the Trail for some rewarding volunteer work. Getting outside is good for both your soul and the Trail. And when working with our knowledgeable stewards, you're sure to gain more information about stewarding the earth at your own home. Tools, gloves, and instructions are provided for all volunteer sessions, and light refreshments will also be offered on April 6 and 27.
On April 6 at 2pm, join geologist Aaron Epstein and botanist Karen Snetselaar for a family-friendly spring walk along the Trail. Come and see how the various rock, water and plant features interact on this rail-to-trail conversion, from the rocky outcrops covered in lichens and mosses to the poorly-drained swales where tadpoles find a safe place to grow. We'll start at the Barmouth trailhead parking lot and then walk up to the Cynwyd Station and back. Feel free to join the walk from either end, or do the round trip! The round trip is expected to take about two hours at a leisurely pace. The walk will happen rain or shine, except in the case of a thunderstorm.
April 26 is Celebrate Trails Days! We hope you will join the celebration by getting outside and enjoying the Cynwyd Heritage Trail. Hosted on the fourth Saturday of April, Celebrate Trails Day is an annual spring celebration of America’s trails. Started by Rails to Trails Conservancy in 2013, the celebration encourages people across the country to get outside and enjoy the nation’s exceptional trails and trail systems. Come out to the Trail with us to experience and share the joy and impact of trails. To get you in the spirit in the meantime, visit Rails to Trails Conservancy’s website to explore ways to celebrate trails.
